All the writing on this site dates from 2000-2002, and should be read with that in mind. The world of photography has moved on since then. In particular the environment for publishing is now radically different, with the eclipse of some key publishers, and the proliferation of printing-on-demand and smaller presses. This has not made for more economic security, however. The circumstances for South African photography have also changed with the increasing integration of prominent work into the circuits of the international art world, and the entry of many new photographers working within a fine-art paradigm.
